VENEZUELA -MY COUNTRY- IS IN CRISIS
To all my friends around the world. There’s suspicions of electoral fraud in yesterday’s presidential election in my country - Venezuela -.
The national electoral council & The ruling socialist party (in power for over 14 years now) claimed a tight victory for their candidate Nicolás Maduro 50,66% over Henrique Capriles’s 49,07% . Capriles refuses to accept defeat until a full recount is done by hand.
The situation is critical because we live in a highly polarized country where the Venezuelan united socialist party has obviously taken control over the national electoral council as well as all other public powers including the military and the congress. Over the last 14 years rules have usually been bent on their favor while keeping a democratic facade.
International awareness is needed.
The Majority may no longer support this regime.
If anything, we have country divided in halves with institutions only favoring the official side.
In Capriles own words via Twitter » “Until every vote is counted and audited, we have an illegitimate president. The world should know”
I am not claiming a fraud yet, but a recount is absolutely necessary for us to legitimate the official results.
People around the world should know this.
That without even mentioning the countless complaints on power abuse, violent acts and cheating that were reported by the opposition during election day that may be overlooked by our own institutions.
